About the Hunterdon Art Museum (HAM)

Founded in 1953, Hunterdon Art Museum, a center for contemporary art, craft, and design, recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. The Museum presents exhibitions of new and innovative art and has an active education department which offers adult and children’s classes, summer art camps, and community programs. Located in a nineteenth century mill on the banks of the South Branch of the Raritan River, in Clinton, New Jersey, the Museum is in western New Jersey, 55 miles from New York City and 60 miles from Philadelphia.

About the Position

The Director of Development is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan that aligns with the Museum’s current and future budget needs. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and overseeing a part-time grant writer, the Director of Development will be responsible for devising and executing strategic fundraising initiatives that support the Museum’s mission and growth while managing the day to day responsibilities of the Department. Responsibilities include foundation, corporate and government relations and individual giving, including all campaigns and special events.

Responsibilities (not limited to)

· Working closely with the Executive Director develop the Department’s annual budget and set goals for the Department

· Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet annual revenue goals, including individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, campaigns and special events.

· Cultivate, solicit and steward donors, sponsors, and prospects to deepen engagement and support for the museum.

· Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events, including donor cultivation events, the annual gala and art auction, and other fundraisers.

· Research and pursue new funding opportunities, including grants from foundations, government agencies, and other sources.

· Develop and maintain donor communications, including solicitation materials and acknowledgment letters.

· Provide leadership and direction to the development committee to ensure effective implementation of fundraising initiatives.

· Monitor and evaluate fundraising performance and provide regular reports to the Executive Director.

· Identify potential donors and board members

· Create and manage the annual appeal and other campaign initiatives, including distribution of printed materials and coordinate with the Communications Manager to oversee the digital version of the appeal

· Create and implement a planned giving program.

· Supervise and work with the grant writer: oversee the grant writing process, including prospect research, reviewing and writing proposals, and ensuring reporting requirements are met

· Develop sponsorship opportunities and solicit businesses and individuals.

· Attend all special events, including exhibition openings and use these events to cultivate individuals.

· Oversee membership, including benefits and the renewal process. Supervise membership marketing materials.

· Track development activity and analyze development data, including donor and member retention in order to create strategies for improved fundraising.

Minimum Requirements

· Bachelor's degree

· Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in individual giving, corporate sponsorship, and grant writing. Experience fundraising for the arts is a plus.

· Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail.

· Knowledge of fundraising best practices, techniques, and trends in the nonprofit sector.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to articulate a nuanced case for support

· Strong computer skills and a familiarity with donor management systems.

· Availability on occasional weekends and evenings

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 per year
